Jiaozuo is a core wheat seed production base in the Huang-Huai-Hai winter wheat region, with 1 million mu of wheat seed breeding area—nearly one quarter of Henan Province—and annual seed sales of about 500 million kg reaching 8 provinces. The city's 13th Party Congress calls for deepening cooperation with the Yazhou Bay National Laboratory, Zhoukou National Agricultural High-Tech Zone and Zhongyuan Agricultural Valley to build a strong seed industry city. Opportunities include: the Huang-Huai-Hai Wheat Variety Rights Trading Platform in Wenxian County, which showcased 108 varieties, with XN98, XA240 and Wenfeng 518 transfer agreements signed; 14 breeding innovation platforms, including the Shennong Seed Laboratory pilot-testing and commercialization base and a National Biological Breeding Industry Innovation Center trial station; the Hemaxian Fruit Town in Macun District with 125 standardized greenhouses, over 2,000 tomato, pepper and melon varieties collected, and 18 new fruit-vegetable varieties filed in 2025; a strategic partnership between the Henan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Sanyi Medicinal Materials on Huaiyao germplasm improvement; and peanut variety Yuhua 93, which yielded 536.7 kg per mu, 13.3% above the control, adding 0.4 yuan per kg. Suitable for seed companies, research institutes, variety rights traders, and fruit-vegetable and Chinese medicinal herb processors. Engage via the Jiaozuo Science and Technology Bureau, the national wheat seed production counties of Wenxian and Qinyang, the variety rights trading platform, or joint breeding with Ping'an Seed, Huaichuan Seed and other local firms. The trading platform operates year-round; fruit-vegetable variety filings follow an annual cycle.
